{"id":150,"date":"2018-07-11T13:59:02","date_gmt":"2018-07-11T13:59:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brownsvillenews.org\/?p=150"},"modified":"2018-10-11T14:04:25","modified_gmt":"2018-10-11T14:04:25","slug":"1st-annual-brownsville-health-wellness-family-day-a-big-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brownsvillenews.org\/?p=150","title":{"rendered":"1st Annual Brownsville Health &#038; Wellness Family Day A Big Success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>pictured l to r; Juliet Adams,\u00a0 Chinyelu Udoh, Chris Legree,\u00a0 Assemblywoman Latrice Walker, Judge Lisa Ottley<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The first annual Brownsville Health &amp; Wellness Family Day was a success, with families, schools, health organizations and community stakeholders coming together for a day of exercise, movement, healthy eating and fun.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8663 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/nycnewswire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Pretty-Powerful-Girls.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" \/>The event was created in partnership with <a href=\"https:\/\/healthynyc.com\/\">Healthy NYC<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/votechrislegree.com\/\">Chris Legree<\/a>, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/schools.nyc.gov\/SchoolPortals\/23\/K363\/default.htm\">Brownsville Collaborative Middle School<\/a>, as a way to bring the community together in order to spread the message about healthy living, which includes exercise, healthy food choices and community fun.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pathsnyc.org\/\">PATHS Dance<\/a> (Performing Arts &amp; Technology HS @ Thomas Jefferson Campus) opened the day with a dance performance to kickoff the event.\u00a0 Activities included double dutch, rollerskating by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skaterobics.com\/\">Skaterobics<\/a>, group exercise by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/AlwayzFiT\/\">Alwayz Fit 4 Lyfe<\/a>,\u00a0 and performances by a group from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elevensixtysix.com\/\">Eleven Sixty Six<\/a>, and the Brownsville Collaborative Middle School step team.<\/p>\n<p>The Melting Pot Foundation&#8217;s, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meltingpotfoundationusa.org\/\">Brownsville Community Culinary Center<\/a> provided healthy foods and Tahee Brew Teas providing delicious iced tea that cleanses the body.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8664 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/nycnewswire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Serving-Food.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" \/>Health organizations that supported the event included <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emblemhealth.com\/\">EmblemHealth<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acpny.com\/\">AdvantageCare<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhccommunityplan.com\/\">UnitedHealthCare<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.staynout.org\/\">New York Therapeutic Communities<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Other community partners included <a href=\"http:\/\/elitelearners.org\/\">Elite Learners<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/lavernesberry.com\/pretty-powerful-girls\/\">Pretty Powerful Girls<\/a>, MPACT and Mo Better Leadership Academy.<\/p>\n<p>Community stakeholders who were present at the event included, Assemblywoman <a href=\"http:\/\/assembly.state.ny.us\/mem\/Latrice-Walker\">Latrice Walker<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/votechrislegree.com\/\">Chris Legree<\/a> (Mo Better Leadership Academy), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nycourts.gov\/courts\/2jd\/kings\/civil\/OttleyRules.shtml\">Judge Lisa Ottley<\/a>, NYPD Chief Jeffrey Maddrey, Van Dyke Houses TA President Lisa Kenner, Tilden Houses TA President Miss Boone, and Howard Houses TA President Miss Johnson.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>pictured l to r; Juliet Adams,\u00a0 Chinyelu Udoh, Chris Legree,\u00a0 Assemblywoman Latrice Walker, Judge Lisa Ottley The first annual Brownsville Health &amp; Wellness Family Day was a success, with families, schools, health organizations and community stakeholders coming together for a day of exercise, movement, healthy eating and fun.
