{"id":546,"date":"2020-05-29T21:14:11","date_gmt":"2020-05-29T21:14:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brownsvillenews.org\/applying-for-a-nycha-rent-hardship-is-easier-than-ever-due-to-covid-19-pandemic\/"},"modified":"2020-05-29T21:14:11","modified_gmt":"2020-05-29T21:14:11","slug":"applying-for-a-nycha-rent-hardship-is-easier-than-ever-due-to-covid-19-pandemic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brownsvillenews.org\/?p=546","title":{"rendered":"Applying for a NYCHA Rent Hardship Is Easier Than Ever Due To COVID-19 Pandemic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/X22lLsuj4yw\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n<strong>Official NYCHA Information<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>NYCHA\u00a0has\u00a0simplified\u00a0its\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/on.nyc.gov\/rent-hardship-assistance\"><b>Rent Hardship Policy<\/b><\/a>\u00a0to make it easier\u00a0than ever\u00a0for you to reduce your rent during the COVID-19 crisis.<\/p>\n<p><b>Who Can Apply for Rent Hardship?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>If your\u00a0<b>hours have been cut<\/b>\u00a0at work, or if you\u00a0<b>have lost your job<\/b>,\u00a0please\u00a0fill out an<b>\u00a0Interim Recertification\u00a0<\/b>application<b>\u00a0immediately.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>As a\u00a0public\u00a0housing\u00a0resident, your rent will always be 30 percent of your household income.<\/p>\n<p><b>If you have no income at this time, your rent will be ZERO.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>There is NO waiting period to report loss of income to NYCHA.\u00a0<\/b><b>Please do not delay.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The standard two-month waiting period\u00a0normally\u00a0required to apply for an Interim Recertification has been suspended.<\/p>\n<p><b>What\u00a0<\/b><b>You<\/b><b>\u00a0Need to Apply for Rent Hardship<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Until further notice, NYCHA\u00a0residents may\u00a0<b>SELF-CERTIFY<\/b>\u00a0their\u00a0income loss.<\/p>\n<p>This means\u00a0that\u00a0<b>supporting documents<\/b>\u00a0such as pay stubs,\u00a0a\u00a0letter from\u00a0your\u00a0employer,\u00a0and\/or\u00a0verification of unemployment benefits, which are usually required to submit the Interim Recertification<b>, are not required at this time.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>We will\u00a0still\u00a0accept these documents if you have them. We will also accept a handwritten letter from your employer and\/or emails, as well as a telephone call from your previous or current supervisor, as verification of your loss of income. However, if none of these items are available at this time, you may\u00a0provide them to NYCHA at a later date.<\/p>\n<p>With or without these documents, you can\u00a0<b>SELF-CERTIFY<\/b>\u00a0your loss of income,\u00a0submit your application,\u00a0and\u00a0receive a reduction in your rent.<\/p>\n<p><b>How to Apply for Rent Hardship<\/b><\/p>\n<p>For your convenience, there are\u00a0<b>THREE different ways<\/b>\u00a0you\u00a0may apply for an\u00a0<b>Interim Recertification<\/b>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"5\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\">Visit NYCHA\u2019s Self-Service Portal at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/selfserve.nycha.info\/\"><b>selfserve.nycha.info<\/b><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"5\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"1\">Call NYCHA\u2019s Customer Contact Center (CCC) at 718-707-7771 (option 5)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"5\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\">Contact your Property Management Office to request a paper application, which will be mailed to you<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a01. NYCHA Self<\/b><b>\u2013<\/b><b>Service Portal<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Using the NYCHA Self-Service Portal is the quickest and easiest method to apply for rent hardship.<\/p>\n<p>We simplified the\u00a0online form. Now\u00a0there are\u00a0<b>only<\/b><b>\u00a0<\/b><b>6 steps\u00a0<\/b>to reduce your rent.\u00a0Refer to\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www1.nyc.gov\/assets\/nycha\/downloads\/pdf\/Simplified-Interim-Recertification-for-Rent-Hardship-Self-Service-Reference-Guide.pdf\"><b>this guide<\/b><\/a>\u202fthat shows you the step-by-step process.<\/p>\n<p><b>Step 1:<\/b>\u00a0Go to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/selfserve.nycha.info.\/\"><b>selfserve.nycha.info<\/b>.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Step 2:<\/b>\u00a0Identify the person in the household who has lost income.<\/p>\n<p><b>Step\u00a0<\/b><b>3<\/b><b>:<\/b>\u00a0Provide the dates of employment for the job where income was reduced or lost; previous\u00a0\u00a0salary;\u00a0and current salary, if income has been reduced.<\/p>\n<p><b>Step\u00a0<\/b><b>4<\/b>: Provide the type of income that has been lost or reduced.<\/p>\n<p><b>Step\u00a0<\/b><b>5<\/b><b>:<\/b>\u00a0Photograph\u00a0and upload documents (if available).<\/p>\n<p><b>Step\u00a0<\/b><b>6<\/b><b>:<\/b>\u00a0SELF-CERTIFY\u00a0and submit.<\/p>\n<p>This online application uses Google\u00a0Translate\u00a0to access the application in\u00a0over 100\u00a0languages.<\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a02. C<\/b><b>all the Customer Contact Center (CCC)<\/b><b>\u00a0at<\/b><b>\u00a0<\/b><b>718-707-7771<\/b><b>\u00a0(Option 5)<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Residents can now call the CCC at\u00a0718-707-7771\u00a0(option 5)\u00a0to\u00a0complete the Interim Recertification application over the phone.\u00a0A\u00a0NYCHA customer service representative will\u00a0guide\u00a0you\u00a0through\u00a0a brief set of questions;\u00a0you can\u00a0<b>SELF<\/b><b>\u2013<\/b><b>CERTIFY<\/b><b>\u00a0<\/b><b>your\u00a0<\/b><b>income loss<\/b>\u00a0and submit the Interim Recertification application over the phone.<\/p>\n<p>Residents who require translation services will be simultaneously connected with the\u00a0Language Helpline,\u00a0which\u00a0will assist throughout the process.<\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a03. C<\/b><b>ontact\u00a0<\/b><b>Your\u00a0<\/b><b>Property Management Office<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Residents\u00a0may\u00a0also\u00a0call\u00a0their\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www1.nyc.gov\/assets\/nycha\/downloads\/pdf\/Property-Management-Office-Information.pdf\">Property\u00a0Management\u00a0Office<\/a>\u00a0to request a paper\u00a0Interim Recertification\u00a0application.<\/p>\n<p>You may provide supporting documents with your paper application or take a picture\/upload\/scan any documents and email them to your Property Management Office.<\/p>\n<p>Once you have completed and submitted the application, you will be contacted by your Property Management Office to\u00a0<b>SELF-CERTIFY.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>For your convenience, we have\u00a0translated\u00a0the\u00a0application\u00a0into\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/on.nyc.gov\/rent-hardship-assistance\">13 different languages<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>You may use the translated application to review the questions in the language of your choice, but you must complete and submit the English application.<\/p>\n<p><b>When Will the Rent Reduction Go\u00a0<\/b><b>i<\/b><b>nto Effect?\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Your\u202frent\u202fwill\u202fbe adjusted for the month following the submission of\u202fthe application.\u202fAny rent\u202fadjustment that does\u202fnot\u202ftake place\u202fimmediately\u202fwill be retroactive to the first of the month after you\u202finitiate the Interim Recertification request.<\/p>\n<p>If you do not see a change in\u202fyour\u202frent\u202fimmediately,\u00a0<b>NYCHA will accept partial rent payments\u202funtil the application is\u202fprocessed.\u202f<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Official NYCHA Information NYCHA\u00a0has\u00a0simplified\u00a0its\u00a0Rent Hardship Policy\u00a0to make it easier\u00a0than ever\u00a0for you to reduce your rent during the COVID-19 crisis.
