NYC Parks, in partnership with the New York Liberty and Brooklyn Nets, has unveiled a total transformation of the basketball courts at Breukelen Ballfields in East New York. This renovation, funded by a $1.8 million investment from Clara Wu Tsai’s Social Justice Fund, is part of a wider initiative aimed at creating recreation opportunities in neighborhoods impacted by gun violence. The courts at Breukelen Ballfields now offer a top-tier space where the community can come together, fostering positive connections through sports. The Breukelen Ballfields is located on the square block that includes Louisiana Ave., Stanley Ave., Flatlands Ave., Williams Ave.
Top-Tier Courts for the Community
Thanks to the support from the Brooklyn Nets and NY Liberty, these courts have been given a stunning upgrade. The courts now feature a fresh, colorful seal-coated surface, new backboards, hoops, and bleachers. The overhaul delivers a safe, inviting space for East New York residents and beyond. NYC Parks Commissioner Sue Donoghue expressed gratitude to the partners, saying, “This transformation ensures that New Yorkers have engaging, safe spaces to connect and enjoy. Our partners’ nearly $2 million investment demonstrates a commitment to these communities.”
