The website was launched by JIG Media, of which Vernon Jones, Sr., is the CEO. Jones played a major role as a lead negotiator in the $3 million Community Benefits Agreement, between East New York Restoration LDC, and The Related Companies, as it relates to the Gateway Mall, in East New York.
“I grew up in Brownsville and East New York, and I know the people and the neighborhood well. Although I’ve been a homeowner in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn for the past 20 years, I have always remained in East New York, as I have loads of friends and family members in the neighborhood. It was important for me, personally, to launch EastNewYork.com, because it allows us the opportunity to share vital messaging and information directly to the residents, during this time of development and rezoning. I saw first hand how Clinton Hill was completely gentrified and I want the residents and homeowners of East New York and Brownsville to understand how gentrification will impact their lives, and what they can do to make sure they are not left behind.” –Vernon Jones, Sr., CEO JIG Medi
